Concept testing
TAPE employs a proprietary Factor Analysis System (F.A.S) to evaluate the audience potentional of any programme project. The system has been developed from over 30 years of continuing study of audience behaviour, and offers a number of advantages over other industry standard approaches:
Flexibility
The system can be used to evaluate projects at all stages of the development process, maximising the inherent value of the research input (i.e. before too much investment has taken place). This can include anything from single page concepts, through script stages, to pilot episodes and beyond.
Range
The ability of the system to break a concept down into its component elements, and to assess their potential individually and collectively, means that we can accurately assess the potential of a wide range of programme genres - from scripted forms such as comedy and drama, to gameshows, factual entertainment and reality shows.
Output
The Testing process provides two separate components:
- The PAR (Potential Audience Return) Score, which provides a weighted, numeric measure of potential appeal that can be benchmarked against a market average to easily determine the likelihood of success or failure in audience terms.
- A written assessment clearly summarizing the intrinsic strengths and weaknesses as identified by the evaluation process, and providing practical options and recommendations to further enhance the potential where appropriate.
Speed
Because the process is carried out completely in-house by our own experienced executives, we are able to carry out the process very quickly. As a result, a project can normally be assessed within 5 working days or receipt.
For confidentiality and non-disclosure reasons we are not able to provide specific examples of the evaluation process on this website. However, further details can be provided on request.
